KCRA A list 2013: My 14 Sacramento recommendations

Each year in the Sacramento area, KCRA Channel 3 nominates local businesses for a “Best of” competition.  There are a total of 162 categories and more than 9,000 local businesses represented for 2013.  This spring, the competition is fierce as local breweries, restaurants and the best local businesses battle it out to get the most votes by May 3!  I had trouble choosing a “Top Ten”, so I’ve selected 14 of these as my favorite.

1.  Best Limousine: Universal Limousine

Universal Limousine offers a wide range of Mercedes or Lincoln sedans, luxury SUVs and new H2 Hummer limousines so you can ride to your next event in style.  Not only do I like them for their affordable rates, they’ve got a long list of happy customers since 1990 and that’s something for every small business to aspire to.  Place Your Vote Now!

2.  Best Comedy Spot: Sacramento Comedy Spot

Sacramento Comedy Spot is all comedy, all the time — 7 nights a week you can enjoy improv, stand-up podcast and sketch comedy.  I like the location in midtown because it’s undergoing an impressive arts and entertainment renaissance, and you can plan a whole night out and end the night off right with some live comedy.  Place Your Vote Now!

3.  Best Coffee Shop: Dutch Bros Coffee

Here’s one coffee shop that’s been brewing fresh cups o’joe for Citrus Heights residents for years. They’ve already been voted Highest Customer Satisfation in 2012 by JD Power & Associates. Will they make it to the top of KCRA’s A-List? Place Your Vote Now!

6.  Best Designer Jewelry: Sharif Jewelers

Don’t let the new 4,000 square foot showcase intimidate you. The Sharif family has been in the fine jewelry business since 1932 and knows a thing or wo about real customer service. I like that they can customize jewelry onsite, and complete the shopping experience with a lounge and signature Turkish coffee. Place Your Vote Now!

7.  Best Women’s Boutique: Krazy Mary’s Boutique

Krazy Mary’s has all the latest fashion trneds so you don’t have to travel to San Francisco, New York or Losa Angeles. I like that Krazy Mary’s has maximized their marketing with private parties and group discounts. Place Your Vote Now!

8. Best Italian Food: Paesanos Pizzeria

Paesanos has two Sacramento locations–Midtown and in Elk Grove–where they serve pizzas, and oven-baked sandwiches. Choose Paesanos staple selections such as the Drogato al Pollo with tequila lime chicken and chili flakes, or the Patata y Pollo pizza with red potatoes and goat cheese, or make your own pizza from a range of fresh toppings. I like Paesanos as a casual place to hang with friends over lunch or for a leisurely weekend dinner. Place Your Vote Now!

9.  Best Mexican Food: Tres Hermanas

Tres Hermanas has been serving traditional homestyle Mexican food in the heart of Sacramento’s Midtown since 1996. Three sisters–Sonia, Norma and Dora–joined together to open the restaurant. I like that they brought their traitional family recipes with them to the Sacramento community and the food is unique regional cuisine from Northern Mexico’s Chihuahua area.

11.  Best Bowling: Strikes Unlimited, Rocklin

Strikes Unlimited is the premier bowling venue in Rocklin, CA. Whether you’re looking for bowling, dancing, live music, karaoke, or a great place to hold a party, Strikes Unlimited and HalfTime Bar & Grill are the place to be. The arcade makes this a family friendly atmosphere too, but the best is how connected Strikes is with the community at large. Several months ago, they hosted a Celebrity Bowling Tournament that Modera and other local companies helped sponsor. This is one business that loves to give back! Place Your Vote Now!

12.  Best Live Music Venue: Ace of Spades

The Ace of Spades is a live music venue located in the heart of Downtown Sacramento’s “R Street District”. There are 4 bars for cocktails, but what I like is the venue is all ages music and entertainment. Escape from the drum machines and overproduced vocal sounds and come enjoy what live music is all about. Place Your Vote Now!
